Club History
The Muskego Kickers Soccer Club was founded in the spring of 1993 by a small group of parents looking for a better soccer training program for their children. This group was led by Toby Whipple and George Hansen. Toby had coached for the Muskego Parks and Recreation Department soccer program after recently returning to his native state of Wisconsin from Pennsylvania, where he had previously coached in the Seneca Valley Soccer Association. George was the Muskego Parks and Recreation Department Supervisor. Toby and George mutually agreed that it was time for Muskego to have a more structured soccer program in the community that could eventually provide better prepared players to the Muskego High School program, which was already in existence. Led by these two gentlemen a group of parent volunteers set out to organize the Muskego Soccer Club as a regional affiliate of the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club. The Milwaukee Kickers district provided the group with the organizational assistance that they needed to be up and running in literally a few months time. Toby's wife, Linda agreed to be the club's first registrar and a registration day was publicized. At it's first registration day held in May 1993 they registered 217 players and in a few short years the club membership was approaching 1000 players! After that the first official club organizational meeting was held to organize teams, recruit parent volunteers to coach and manage, handle uniform distribution, stripe fields, etc. Also, at that first organizational meeting a club logo (designed by Whipple) and color scheme (red, white and black) were adopted, that are still being used today.
After three years running as strictly a recreational program and developing young players' skills, the club made it's first venture into competitive (select) soccer. The club held it's first competitive team tryout and a combined U11/12 Boys team was organized and coached by Toby Whipple and assisted by Scott Anger. The first year the team struggled to record a win and sometimes even to score a goal against teams from clubs that had been organized for many years. The team was also playing with mostly U11's and playing in a U12 league because they had three U12 players. The team persevered and improved rapidly and the core of this team won their league after just a couple seasons. After many successful years of running both a recreational and select level program, the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) mandated a switch to smaller sided games. This change in roster size would make it difficult for a Muskego only select program to provide quality opportunities for youth players in all age groups. For this and other reasons, such as to provide higher level coaching, the visionary leadership of the Muskego Soccer Club and the Mukwonago Area Soccer Club (MASC) decided to jointly organize and administer a new select program known as MK United. This group was led by Whipple from Muskego and John Simms and Paul Nowaczek from MASC. They started the new select program in the spring of 2005. The MK United program has been highly successful in developing youth players in all age groups, with numerous league and tournament championships and numerous player advancements to the collegiate level.
Prior to the formation of the Muskego Kickers Soccer Club the high school teams had only made one WIAA State Tournament appearance. Since the Club has been in existence the high school has added Freshman teams (boys and girls) and has made numerous WIAA State Tournament appearances. Our community is now known for the many highly talented soccer players we have developed!
We are now in our 17th year of providing quality soccer programing to the youth of Muskego and its surrounding communities...and the tradition continues!
